Design Comparison Operations

When the user selects the Diff Netlists operation, NetBom will read the netlist file(s) for the selected designs. It creates a database for each design and then intelligently compares the items and generates report tables concisely detailing the differences it finds between the two.

NetBom creates and opens a top-level HTML summary report detailing the statistics for the differences found between the designs. A sample top-level report can be seen below.

Report Overview

1. Sub-Report Links

This section provides links to the NetBom netlist, partlist, and capacitance reports that are built at the same time as most NetBom reports.

2. Report Header

The report header shows which report is being viewed, the current tool version, timestamp of the build, and design paths.

3. Header Buttons

The top three buttons (from left to right) in this set perform the following tasks:

  1. NetBom settings dialog. This button opens a popup window that has configuration information for NetBom along with a list of report-specific CSETs and their descriptions.

  2. Print button. This button will open a print dialog for the report table.

  3. Help button. This button will take you here.

The load and save buttons allow the user to save any changes made to the reports by the user (such as accepting rows and adding comments) to a data file that can be shared or stored for later.

All report changes that are made are cached locally. So no worries if your browser crashes, just open it back up and all your changes will still be there!

4. Part List Reports

This is a high-level summary of the differences between the two design partlists. Each row is clickable and will open a detailed comparison table at the bottom of the page.

5. Net List Reports

A high-level summary of the differences between the two design netlists. When comparing BOMs, all of these rows will be zero.

6. Report Buttons

From left to right:

  1. Open report in new window. This will break out the report into a separate window that does not have the high level information in it.

  2. Settings. This is similar to the settings mentioned above, except is has information that is specific to the report that is currently showing.

  3. Print. Same as other print button.

  4. Help. Takes you to the report-specific online help page.
